The New 2022 Chevy Silverado: An Early Look

6 minute read

By Chelsea Hammond

If you’re looking to purchase a new truck for work or off-roading adventures, the new Chevrolet Silverado may be what you’re looking for. The latest member of the Silverado family has been extensively upgraded from other models and explicitly designed with traversing rough terrain in mind.

The 2022 Silverado is set to reach dealerships this spring, and many are already taking pre-orders. But what makes this year’s model so special? How is it different from previous models, and what can you expect in terms of capabilities? If you’re thinking about calling one of these trucks your own, continue reading for an early look at everything currently known about the 2022 Silverado.

The Basics

The Chevrolet Silverado is set to start at $30,400 for the standard trim. However, higher-level trims can exceed $50,000, depending on the trim and optional features chosen. The higher price tag is justified because of the truck’s durability and off-roading abilities.

The Silverado is expected to receive 23 mpg when driving in the city and 31 mpg on the highways, for combined fuel efficiency of 27 mpg. One of the best features of this truck is that it has a lot of head and legroom for front-seat passengers.

You can choose one of three cab types. The crew cab features a back seat with lots of passenger room. The double cab has a back seat with little space, and the regular cab only has a front seat.

New for 2022

Chevrolet gave their newest Silverado numerous updates when compared to the previous years. There’s a new interior with newly upgraded technology, including a better touchscreen display. Another new feature is the Super Cruise driver assistance technology.

The exterior has been refreshed with minor changes while still staying true to the classic Silverado look. Even the engine got an upgrade. This year’s model features a 2.7-liter Turbo high output engine with an impressive amount of torque. This means more power and faster potential speeds.

Better Off-Road Capabilities

Even the standard 2022 Silverado trim has better off-road capabilities than previous models. However, higher-level trims are even better equipped to handle off-road travel.

Off-road travel means driving on dirt roads, mountain trails and anywhere that isn’t a paved road. This is obviously perfect for anyone who loves adventure and the great outdoors, but others can benefit from this potential, too. For example, a top-notch off-roading vehicle is ideal for farmers, ranchers and forest rangers, to name only a few.

Upgraded Interior Technology

The Silverado’s interior technology has been brought up to date. The best upgrades include a new touchscreen display and a new digital driver information center.

The size of the infotainment touchscreen varies depending on the trim level chosen. However, all of them feature the touchscreen format for maximum convenience. In addition, the displays are Bluetooth-compatible, provide multiple music options and display GPS directions where they’re easily viewable.

The digital driver information center includes everything you need while driving, displaying it in an organized, easy-to-see area. It provides critical information, such as the direction traveled, miles per hour, average miles per gallon received and total miles driven.

Trim Options Available

Nine individual trim options are available for the 2022 Chevrolet Silverado. Each trim provides different interior and exterior features. For example, certain trims feature better off-roading capabilities or upgraded towing capacities. Plus, some trims have additional exterior or interior colors available.

Most people are fine with the Work Truck trim unless they just want something better. However, the higher-level trims are likely better options for certain people. Each trim is described more in-depth below so that you can make the most informed purchasing decision.

The Work Truck has a 4.3-liter V6 engine with a reasonable towing capacity and a payload that suits most people. The truck bed is a little more durable than what most other pickup trucks feature.

An upgrade to the Custom is the Chevrolet Silverado 1500 Customer Trail Boss. It has all the same features as the traditional Customer but with a 2-inch factory suspension that provides better ground clearance. It also comes standard with an off-roading package.
