If you’re looking to purchase a new truck for work or off-roading adventures, the new Chevrolet Silverado may be what you’re looking for. The latest member of the Silverado family has been extensively upgraded from other models and explicitly designed with traversing rough terrain in mind.
The 2022 Silverado is set to reach dealerships this spring, and many are already taking pre-orders. But what makes this year’s model so special? How is it different from previous models, and what can you expect in terms of capabilities? If you’re thinking about calling one of these trucks your own, continue reading for an early look at everything currently known about the 2022 Silverado.
The Basics
The Chevrolet Silverado is set to start at $30,400 for the standard trim. However, higher-level trims can exceed $50,000, depending on the trim and optional features chosen. The higher price tag is justified because of the truck’s durability and off-roading abilities.
The Silverado is expected to receive 23 mpg when driving in the city and 31 mpg on the highways, for combined fuel efficiency of 27 mpg. One of the best features of this truck is that it has a lot of head and legroom for front-seat passengers.
You can choose one of three cab types. The crew cab features a back seat with lots of passenger room. The double cab has a back seat with little space, and the regular cab only has a front seat.
New for 2022
Chevrolet gave their newest Silverado numerous updates when compared to the previous years. There’s a new interior with newly upgraded technology, including a better touchscreen display. Another new feature is the Super Cruise driver assistance technology.
The exterior has been refreshed with minor changes while still staying true to the classic Silverado look. Even the engine got an upgrade. This year’s model features a 2.7-liter Turbo high output engine with an impressive amount of torque. This means more power and faster potential speeds.
Better Off-Road Capabilities
Even the standard 2022 Silverado trim has better off-road capabilities than previous models. However, higher-level trims are even better equipped to handle off-road travel.
Off-road travel means driving on dirt roads, mountain trails and anywhere that isn’t a paved road. This is obviously perfect for anyone who loves adventure and the great outdoors, but others can benefit from this potential, too. For example, a top-notch off-roading vehicle is ideal for farmers, ranchers and forest rangers, to name only a few.
Upgraded Interior Technology
The Silverado’s interior technology has been brought up to date. The best upgrades include a new touchscreen display and a new digital driver information center.
The size of the infotainment touchscreen varies depending on the trim level chosen. However, all of them feature the touchscreen format for maximum convenience. In addition, the displays are Bluetooth-compatible, provide multiple music options and display GPS directions where they’re easily viewable.
The digital driver information center includes everything you need while driving, displaying it in an organized, easy-to-see area. It provides critical information, such as the direction traveled, miles per hour, average miles per gallon received and total miles driven.
Trim Options Available
Nine individual trim options are available for the 2022 Chevrolet Silverado. Each trim provides different interior and exterior features. For example, certain trims feature better off-roading capabilities or upgraded towing capacities. Plus, some trims have additional exterior or interior colors available.
Most people are fine with the Work Truck trim unless they just want something better. However, the higher-level trims are likely better options for certain people. Each trim is described more in-depth below so that you can make the most informed purchasing decision.
Chevy Silverado 1500 Work Truck
Starting at $32,500, the Work Truck trim is the standard option without all the bells and whistles. It’s durable, dependable and as hard-working as its driver is likely to be. It features a blacked-out Chevrolet graphic grille and tailgate on a standard single-tone body.
The Work Truck has a 4.3-liter V6 engine with a reasonable towing capacity and a payload that suits most people. The truck bed is a little more durable than what most other pickup trucks feature.
Chevy Silverado 1500 Custom
At a starting price of $45,395, the Custom trim features several exterior upgrades to the Work Truck. For starters, the windows are created with deep-tinted glass that provides extra privacy and sun protection. The bumpers and grille are painted the same color as the body. The body also features 20-inch Bright Silver aluminum wheels and Chevrolet signature LED highlights.
An upgrade to the Custom is the Chevrolet Silverado 1500 Customer Trail Boss. It has all the same features as the traditional Customer but with a 2-inch factory suspension that provides better ground clearance. It also comes standard with an off-roading package.
Chevy Silverado 1500 LT
With an MSRP of $49,470, The main upgrades to the LT trim are exterior. For example, this trim comes standard with LED headlamps, daytime running lamps and 17-inch Bright Silver aluminum wheels. The bumpers, center grilled bar and mirror cases are all done in chrome.
This trim also has a Trail Boss upgrade. The Chevrolet Silverado 1500 LT Trail Boss is similar to the Custom version. However, it comes with additional upgrades, such as a V8 engine and upgraded exterior features.
Chevy Silverado 1500 RST
Starting at $53,420, the RST trim features several interior and exterior upgrades. It comes standard with keyless open and remote start features for ultimate convenience. There’s also an EZ Lift power lock and release tailgate and 18-inch Bright Silver aluminum wheels.
You have the option to add LED headlamps to this package for better vision at night. This trim is more focused on convenience than performance upgrades, which may make it suitable for someone who likes the work truck trim but wants just a little more.
Chevy Silverado 1500 LTZ
Starting at $57,595, the LTZ trim comes with an electronic stability system with traction control. These features are perfect for anyone who plans on driving over uneven terrain, as they help keep the vehicle moving and stable. The grille and wheels are painted a traditional silver, and the body has a conventional single-tone paint job.
This trim level includes power-adjustable, power-folding mirrors. When the mirrors are folded against the side of the truck, you can fit the Silverado in slightly more narrow spaces without risking vehicle damage.
Chevy Silverado 1500 ZR2
At $66,300, the ZR2 is the best option for people who plan to take their truck off-roading regularly. The chassis and suspension system were designed specifically for this purpose. The Silverado 1500 ZR2 has a towing capacity of up to 8,900 pounds and a payload capacity of up to 1,440 pounds.
The engine is a powerful 6.2-liter V8. The truck comes standard with a 10-speed automatic transmission. These combine to provide more power, even when going up (or down) hills.
Chevy Silverado 1500 High Country
With an MSRP at $62,895, the High Country has several convenient upgrades from the standard Work Truck trim that may be perfect for farmers, ranchers and those in similar positions. The tailgate powers up and down for convenience. The vehicle also has assist steps spanning from wheel to wheel to make climbing inside the truck easier.
The High Country features signature curtain LED daytime running lamps and high-intensity discharge LED lamps. With these upgrades, you have no problem seeing appropriately to drive in the dark.
