If you’re in the market for a brand-new truck, there are plenty of options this year. Most major vehicle manufacturers have released new truck models in 2022, including Ford, Toyota and Nissan. However, the 2022 Dodge Ram 1500 stands out for a few reasons.
The Dodge Ram comes in several trim levels and has been named the most luxurious in its class. However, the Ram hasn’t traded power for luxury. It’s still as powerful and rugged as other full-sized pickup trucks. This makes it the perfect vehicle if you’re looking for a solid combination of off-road driving capabilities, workability, comfort and luxury.
The Basics
The 2022 Dodge Ram 1500 starts at $35,200 and has average fuel economy for a pickup truck offering about 20 mpg in the city and 25 mpg on the highway. This fuel economy is paired with a 23-gallon tank.
The Ram’s standard trim comes with a 3.6-liter V6 engine with 305 horsepower and rear-wheel drive. The interior is roomy and provides ample seating for six (in everything except the regular cabin option). The 2022 Ram has a payload capacity of 2,320 pounds and a towing capacity of 7,690 pounds.
New for 2022
There are a few notable changes for the 2022 Ram compared to the 2021 model. The most significant differences are multiple new appearance packages and exterior paint colors. Of course, these options vary from one trim level to the next.
Dodge also equipped the Ram with a new, upgraded cabin air filtration system on all trims, including the standard. Most (but not all) trims also come standard with the latest Uconnect 5 Operating System for the touchscreen display.
Finally, prices have been raised for all models. The price changes are generally fair for the upgraded technology in this year’s model. However, if you’re someone who doesn’t care much about technological features, the 2021 Dodge Ram is an okay option with a lower price tag.
Warranty
All new Dodge Ram 1500 purchases come with a reasonably comprehensive warranty program. The warranty program is slightly better than what comes with some other pickup trucks but is about on par with others.
To get started, the Ram comes with a basic limited warranty for 36 months or 36,000 miles, whichever comes first. A Powertrain limited warranty also covers the first 60 months or 60,000 miles. Finally, Dodge offers comprehensive roadside assistance for the first 60 months or 60,000 miles, whichever comes first.
Cab and Truck Bed Options
Any pickup truck is likely to have two or more cab and truck bed options. The options available for the 2022 Ram are discussed a little more below. However, certain trims don’t allow all cab and truck bed options.
Cab options include regular, crew and double. Regular cabs have only a front bench seat with no back seat, meaning comfortable seating is available for two or three people. Both the crew and double cab options have seating for six people; however, the crew cab option has a roomier second row, whereas the double cab is more cramped.
The Dodge Ram also has two truck bed sizes available. You can choose from a 67-inch short bed or a 76-inch long bed.
Standard Safety Features
The Dodge Ram has several standard safety features built into every trim level. These include front-impact airbags for the driver and passenger and overhead airbags in the first and second rows. A side-impact beam decreases damage during sideswipes or T-bone collisions.
You can set off the panic alarm from the key fob or the truck’s interior. The Ram also includes an anti-theft engine immobilizer and rear child safety locks. Additional safety features are available in higher-level trims.
Available Trim Options
Six trim options are available for the 2022 Dodge Ram 1500. The standard option is fine for most people. Still, in some situations, a higher-level trim may be more appropriate. For example, if you’re interested in more advanced technology, better safety features, higher towing capacity or greater off-road capabilities, you may find a higher level trim is a better option.
Of course, if you like a higher level trim better, feel free to upgrade. Since each trim varies slightly in aesthetics, it’s possible you may simply like the look (and feel) of one over the other. Each of the six Dodge Ram trim options is discussed in more depth below.
